The Muscat International Book Fair was launched in 1992 as one of the achievements of Oman’s modern renaissance. Since its founding, the fair has moved at a steady pace towards development and renewal, keeping up with global changes in the book and publishing industry, and playing a central role in the cultural and scientific development of society. Through its successive editions, it has helped energise cultural life, spread knowledge, strengthen the book market, and supply the Omani library with the latest scientific, literary and artistic works from publishers around the world, as well as promoting Omani books and bringing them to readers.
The fair has undergone a radical transformation, as the indicators confirm: the number of participating countries, the number of publishers, the exhibition space and pavilions, public attendance, the accompanying cultural programme and media presence. This has earned it a distinguished place among international book fairs, and it now attracts hundreds of leading local, Arab and international publishers who compete to take part.
While the fair strives to preserve its considerable achievements, its aspirations look to the future with hope and optimism, to fulfil further cultural and civilisational ambitions that meet its intended goals and objectives.
